LIPHOOK DISTRICT GUIDES
Joining Guides
Guides is for girls aged from 10 to 14
There are two Guide Units in Liphook with a maximum of 36 girls in each Unit.
Policy
Liphook Guide Units will accept girls aged from 10 to 13 who are resident in the Parish of Bramshott and Liphook, subject to a space being available. Girls from other Parishes are not usually accepted unless there are special circumstances (eg. if there is no Guide Unit in their own village and Liphook Units have space). An offer of a place in a Unit is in all cases at the discretion of the Unit Guider.
Brownies go up to Guides when the Brownie Leader feels they are ready after their 10th birthday, providing that the Guide Units have space. If there are no spaces in Guides at the time, the prospective Guide will be placed on a Guide waiting list, and the Guide Guider will contact her parents as soon as there is a place available.
If there is a waiting list, ex-Brownies will have priority over other girls wanting to join Guides who have not been a Brownie.
If a girl leaves Brownies at any stage before the age of 10, she loses her automatic right of a place in Guides, and does not then have any priority on the Guide waiting list. (It is of course expected as a matter of courtesy that the parents will inform the Unit leader if their daughter wishes to leave. Leaders will assume a girl has left if she has not attended meetings for three weeks without explanation).
If you have moved into Liphook and your daughter was a Guide elsewhere, her previous Guider should be asked to fill out a transfer form. This will give your daughter precedence over other girls if there is a waiting list for the Unit she wishes to join. Tell the Guider who administers the waiting list that you have a transfer form.
There is the option of circumventing the wait by volunteering to help in the Units, as priority is given to those whose parents are willing to contribute their time!
If you would like to volunteer to help with your daughter's Guide Unit or in other ways you can discuss this with Mrs Boosey who will put you in touch with the District Coordinator, or see one of the following:
