LIPHOOK DISTRICT GUIDES
Joining Brownies
Brownies is for girls aged from 7 to 10
Liphook has three Brownie Units with a maximum of 24 girls in each Pack.
Policy
Liphook Brownie Units will accept girls aged from 7 to 9 who are resident in the Parish of Bramshott and Liphook, subject to a space being available. Girls from other Parishes are not usually accepted unless there are special circumstances (eg. if there is no Brownie Unit in their own village and Liphook Units have space). An offer of a place in a Unit is in all cases at the discretion of the Unit Guider.
Rainbows go up to Brownies when the Rainbow Leader feels they are ready after their 7th birthday, providing that the Brownie Units have space. If there are no spaces in Brownies at the time, the prospective Brownie will be placed on a Brownie waiting list, and the Brownie Guider will contact her parents as soon as there is a place available.
If there is a waiting list, ex-Rainbows will have priority over other girls wanting to join Brownies who have not been a Rainbow, except when a girl has been on the waiting list for Rainbows but was never a Rainbow due to lack of space.
If a girl choses to leave Rainbows at any stage before the age of 7, she loses her automatic right of a place in Brownies, and does not then have any priority on the Brownie waiting list. (It is expected as a matter of courtesy that the parents will inform the Unit leader if their daughter wishes to leave. Leaders will assume a girl has left if she has not attended meetings for three weeks without explanation).
If you have moved into Liphook and your daughter aged 7 to 9 was a Brownie elsewhere, her previous Guider should be asked to fill out a transfer form. This will give your daughter precedence over other girls if there is a waiting list for the Unit she wishes to join. Tell the Guider who administers the waiting list that you have a transfer form.
There is the option of getting your daughter to the top of the waiting list by volunteering to help in the Units, as priority is given to those whose parents are willing to contribute their time!
