We were delighted that Lucy Munro who is herself an ex
2nd Liphook Guide, gained her Guider's warrant.
We said goodbye to our Unit Helper Suzy White who went off to University. We wish her well and look forward to her visiting us from Devon when she can.
We keep in regular touch with Anushka who is doing well at university with her medical studies. We also have two excellent Young Leaders.
We celebrated our Silver Anniversary in December 2004 by having a meal together at Chockles cafe in Liphook.
The cafe owners opened specially for us and cooked us a lovely meal. The girls entered into the spirit of the occasion by dressing in silvery or glittery clothes and accessories.
We had silver balloons and crackers, and a prize for the most sparkly outfit, and all the girls received a small gift from the lucky dip.
We were delighted to have as guests the founders of the Unit, Jenny Mellish and Janet Newitt, and Barbara Crook who has been involved in the Unit in various ways.
The evening was greatly enjoyed by all.
Victoria enjoyed an excellent International Camp in Finland in summer 2004 and gained a great deal from the experience. She has shown her slides at the Division and District AGMs as well as at County Day. A report of her trip will be added soon in Intenational Camps.
Heather worked for her Camper's Licence and ran a weekend camp at Herons Wey, Tilford in May for 14 Guides, 2 YLs and 4 adults. See Guide Camps and Holidays for a report of this event.
Our Senior Patrol worked on their Baden Powell Challenge which is the highest award a Guide can gain. Fiona and Fay took part in a narrow boat trip as part of their badge and had a great time. Serena and Jo stayed at Pax Lodge in London for a Gunpowder plot weekend in November 2005. At camp Senior Patrol built a bivouac and slept outside for two nights as part of this award.
Some of the highlights of the year include:
A hike from Butser Hill to Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
Outdoor cooking in Grayshott.
Sports and a BBQ on the last evening of Summer term 2004.
The carnival, which was a huge success and enjoyed by all, both in 2004 and 2005.
The Halloween party organised by the Rangers in 2004 and a Wear it Pink Party to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness in 2005.
We had a good turn out for Remembrance Service and for Thinking Day Service.
About 14 girls completed the 'Community Service' element of their Challenge badges by helping at the Liphook Infant School Christmas and Summer fayres.
Shelter building and a water-fight at Ontario.
Most girls completed the Splash challenge.
Several Guides took part in the Sainsbury's bag packing fundraising and two Guides raised money for the carnival by attending the danceathon.
Quite a few Guides and their parents were involved in the Lidba cycle ride, either cycling or helping on the drink stops.
A treasure hunt, sailing mini rafts on the River Wey, a wide game at Chapel Common were all enjoyed during the summer. In autumn term 2005 we had a District Guide sleepover, followed by Holly's Fun Day.
All Guides gained either the Confectionary Badge, World Cultures Badge or Traditions of Guiding Badge. We had an X-Factor evening and a night Hike. During spring term 2006 all Patrols gained Go For Its and we had a fun Easter Bonnet competition and Easter Egg Hunt.
We had 35 or 36 girls in the Unit during most of the previous year which makes organisation quite a task, and our Guides are good at being noisy, but we have lots of fun!
