LIPHOOK DISTRICT GUIDES

Remembrance Service

Remembrance service 2005The annual Service of Remembrance for those who served and died in war is held at St Mary's Parish Church, Bramshott. Guides and Brownies attend and our flags form part of the colour party.

We take turns with the Scouts to carry the Union flag at the head of the parade. When it is our turn this honour falls to the Senior Section.

The British Legion are present and the Parish Council are represented. An unofficial visitor is a horse wearing a large poppy who stands outside to represent and remind us of all the animals who have died for our sake during conflicts.

Wreath laying ceremony During the Service the names of those who lost their lives in the world wars and other conflicts are read out, and many of the surnames names are familiar to the girls as some families have lived in the area for many years.

Part of the service is held outside around the war memorial. This is very moving as the last post is sounded and the flags are lowered for a minutes silence.
We always lay a wreath, together with other organisations during this part of the service.

In 2005 the Church asked the Scouts and Guides to play a part in the service and two Guides read a poem.

This service has a long history both here and elsewhere in the country, and we are pleased that we are able to take part in our local service and remember the sacrifce of those from our Parish who died.
