Fund Raising Events

LIDBA Annual Cycle Ride

Lidba logoOne of the most important fund-raising events is the Lidba annual cycle ride in which several Brownies and Guides take part. The Friends of Guiding, together with Guiders organise the refreshments, man the water stops on the cycle route and cook early breakfast for the event organisers, as well as running the ice cream and refreshment tent. Sometimes second hand books are sold at the event.

Liphook District Guides are very grateful for donations from the Lidba committee which enable us to purchase larger items of equipment like new tents.

Danceathon

DanceathonOn the 8 th May 2005 we held Liphook District's first sponsored Dance-a-thon, in order to raise money for this year's carnival float. The event was attended by 26 girls overall and proved both popular and successful with the girls and has given the Carnival funds a boost.

Nine of these girls came from 2nd Liphook Brownies, six from 4th Brownies and six from 5th Brownies. We also had three Rainbows take part from the 1st Liphook unit, which was terrific, as they do not take part in the actual parade in October. Although only two Guides participated they were extremely appreciated as they helped with looking after the younger girls.

Throughout the afternoon the girls worked together to learn two dance routines, which they all picked up exceptionally well. They were also split into small groups to choreograph their own 2-minute routine.

After the four hours dancing, the girls had the chance to perform their favourite routine of the afternoon to their parents before collecting their well deserved certificate for taking part and raising lots of money for what we hope will be another winning carnival float!

The total amount raised from this event was £436.60.

Sainsbury's Bag Packing For the Holly Woodage Fund

Liphook District had it's first event to raise money for Holly's Fund in 2005. The fund is set up in memory of Holly Woodage, a young Guider who sadly passed away. It is intended to help finance girls to go on pack holidays and camps who would not otherwise be able to go.

The Rainbows Brownies and Guides helped pack bags in Sainsbury's Supermarket and raised a considerable sum.

Tsunami Disaster Fundraising 2005

Bring and buy saleWhen the Units returned from the 2004 Christmas break, all of them wanted to contribute something towards the disaster appeal for the Tsunami victims. Each Unit chose a different way of raising money. One Rainbow Pack collected Smartie tubes and filled them with money, a Brownie Pack made ‘rubbings' of the money they collected and stuck a frieze of paper coins all round the HQ, another Brownie pack held a bring and buy sale. The Guides held a non uniform video and pizza party and each girl gave a donation.

At our Thinking Day service at the Methodist Church in February, the congregation generously donated their collection to our fund-raising efforts.

Unit Fundraising

Car boot sale 2006Units have raised funds and made donations to many other charities.

These have included bring and buy sales for Children In Need , a pink dressing up night for Breast Cancer Awareness Week, pyjama parties for Tsunami relief and many other things.

Recently a table top sale and a car boot sale were held in aid of funds for the Rangers trip to York.

Community Links with Liphook Infant School

Fayre stall clip artA few years ago, one of the Guide Patrols organised a sponsored 'dip in custard' event in which they all agreed to get into a paddling pool full of runny custard which had items like garlic, mashed potato, a banana skin, broccoli and other strange items floating around. It was great fun and they raised £108.00 which was donated to the Liphook Infant school to help them to buy a sun parasol for the playground.

Since then, the Guides have helped out at the Infant School summer and Christmas fetes and fayres every year, providing much needed additional help to run stalls and activities.
