LIPHOOK DISTRICT GUIDES
The Holly Woodage Star
The Holly Woodage Star was created in 2004 in memory of a young Liphook Leader who sadly died in 2003.
The trophy was beautifully made by Liphook Scouter Dave Evans in the form of a silver star set in a circular wood mount. Holly was a star in all ways, so this symbol is an excellent way to remember her.
The star is awarded annually to a Rainbow, Brownie, Guide, Ranger or Young Leader who has achieved something exceptional, and it is considered a very high honour to be nominated.
A Swarovski star is given to the recipient of the award to keep as a memento.
The award was first presented in 2004 by Holly's father Andy who is a Scouter.
These are the recipients so far:
2004 : Poppy Mitchell
Poppy was a 1st Liphook Guides who, despite her disabilities, was a very keen member of the Unit and participated with great enthusiasm in everything the other girls did. She had many friends and her zest for life was infectious, and she inspired the other Guides to do their best. Her determination and the way she tackled everything with a huge smile made her the unanimous choice to be the first recipient of Holly's Star.
2005 : Thea Leahy
Thea endeavoured to overcome her shyness and became a happy and keen member of the 5th Liphook Brownie Pack.
Over the three years she was with the Unit, she volunteered to attend many events in which she actively participated. These included challenges which she found very demanding, but which she undertook with great enthusiasm.
Her personality blossomed through attending Brownies and she became a more mature, outgoing individual, seeking to do her best and overcoming her fears and achieving her aspirations.
Thea's qualities shone through at Brownies and she is a more than worthy recipient of Holly's Star.
